Heatmap.Live has entered its beta testing stage with several sensors deployed on campus. We look forward to launching our app publicly in a few weeks.
We employ a network of Internet-of-Things sensors that measures Wi-Fi traffic, a proven indicator of crowd mobility. These sensors collect millions of data entries per hour, and our servers process these data in a privacy preserving way. Through advanced mathematical and machine learning algorithms, we calculate an accurate number of pedestrians present at various locations on campus and generate forecasts of upcoming traffic patterns, which is displayed in our mobile application. We have detailed these methodologies in our paper.
